Dear Sandeep,Whether coaching or not (In GS or optnaiol subject) is completely your decision. Yes, coaching certainly plays a vital role. It helps in providing the right orientation for the students and save valuable time in the process. They also provide information on such themes which are not easily accessible to the students. The most important role is the utility of “just in time” management and help the reorganisation of information hitherto gathered by the students (i.e. “just in case” collection of information). Also, it provides a learning and testing environment for the students which acts like a pace maker and keeps students working hard. Not that you cannot succeed by self study alone. Essentially, even after coaching if a student does not self study then there is no way he/she can get success. Yes, certainly with no help, you’ll have to study by yourself, remain motivated, prepare a time table to keep yourself on track and test yourself periodically.About booksSee, NCERT books are a starting point which help you refresh your basics and lay foundation for targeted study towards the exam.
